OUR
STORY

Living here, we find ourselves spending a lot of times outdoors. Well, apparently that's where all the biting bugs live too.

It didn't matter if we were on the beach, hiking on a trail, on a boat, or just doing yardwork, the bugs seem to find us. After using dozens of natural bug sprays we were finding ourselves still getting bit up. The more we looked at these products the list of problems seemed to be similar. Some just didn't work at all, some worked but didn't last, and of course all of them seemed to wash away as soon as it touched the water. Before you know it, the bottle was empty and the bugs started flocking. Not to mention some of the products smelled just downright horrible. We're trying to repel bugs, not the people close to us.

Something had to be done. It was us against them. Sure, we're outnumbered by the millions but we have science behind us. First we have to dive into what makes a bug spray. What exactly IS insect repellent? Well, you may be surprised. First let's look at the key word here. Repel.

Repel:

/rəˈpel/

be repulsive or distasteful to.

Well, that explains it well. We're not trying to create a physical barrier or wall. We're also not trying to be transparent here either. No. Our goal is to be so disgusting to the bugs that they don't want to be anywhere near us. We can probably all think of a few offensive ingredients to make a people repellent. So essentially we have to take that idea, but make it for specifically against bugs. More specifically, the species of mosquitos, flies, no see ums, ticks, and gnats that roam the area. We want to use ingredients that we know these species don't like.

Thankfully nature has been doing this for well, a very long time. Plants have been emitting their own smells and even toxins to drive away predatory bugs.  So after weeks of scientific research we knew exactly what ingredients were more effective than others. This is vital because if you think about it, smells that are "bad" to you, may not be "bad" to others. Like really smelly cheese for example. This is why you can't use just one main scent and it's best to carefully select and layer a few scents together.

After laborious amounts of testing, we finalized our formula and it became what it is today. An amazing spray made with natural ingredients.
